New 2017 Dodge Challenger

2017 Dodge Challenger Overview

  • V-6 and V-8 engine options
  • New T/A packages for R/T trims
  • Available active exhaust system
The 2017 Dodge Challenger is a 2-door coupe with plenty of powertrain options. It competes with the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This year, the R/T and R/T 392 trim levels gain new T/A special edition packages. All HEMI V-8 models now receive an electronically controlled active exhaust system that gives a signature muscle-car sound to the Challenger.

Five trim levels are available: the SXT, R/T, R/T 392, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.

The Challenger retains its retro-inspired muscle car appearance. The front-end has an overall flattened, minimalistic look with exception to the hood scoop, which serves as a part of the cold-air induction system. The rear fenders bulge, indicating the rear-wheel drive layout. Standard features include LED daytime running lights and projector bead headlights. The SRT Hellcat comes with unique body styling, a shaker hood, and larger 20-inch alloy wheels to complement its powertrain. The new T/A special edition packages include satin black exterior graphics, high-performance Brembo brakes, and wider 20-inch wheels.

Under the hood, the Challenger has several engine options available. At the base level, the SXT is powered by a standard 305-hp, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The R/T adds power with its 375-hp, 5.7-liter V-8, which comes with a standard six-speed manual. Then we get to the big boys. The SRT features a 485-hp, 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 and your choice of the two previously mentioned transmissions. Optional on the SRT is the same engine found in the Charger Hellcat, a 707-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8.

Inside, the Challenger has a sporty interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features the standard Uconnect multimedia system that includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and a USB port. It can be upgraded with an integrated navigation system and a premium audio system. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, high-performance seats, and other unique interior treatments are available as well.

Standard safety features include six airbags, antilock brakes, and an electronic stability control system. A backup camera, parking sensors, a blindspot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning are also available.
